The Light Therapy Experience & Different Systems

Back to the Basics - What are the different light therapy systems & what is the light therapy experience like?

As with all things these days, there are a lot of different options out there for light therapy systems & each light therapy experience is unique.

I personally am a big fan of a Pad System because they’re so versatile, but I want to share the most common ones with you so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle!

I also want to share with you what the light therapy experience is when you come in to see me.

What are the most common light therapy systems out there?

Today I am going to talk about three specific different types of delivery systems. The first one is called The Panel, the second one is called a Light Pod, and the third one is called a Pad System.

The Panel System:

The panel is a vertical panel that’s anywhere from 2 - 4 inches thick and can come in various sizes – this can even be large enough that the panel covers your whole body. These come with different bulbs for light wavelengths, predominantly with red lights. I’ve seen people set them on a table, and pictures and photos of them being placed up on the wall. With this modality you have to be unclothed in order to receive the delivery of the light wavelengths and you need to wear eye protection.

The Pod System:

The next system is the Light Pod System which looks like a giant tanning bed. Again, you need to be unclothed and again you need to wear eye protection for this system. The Pod System is more relaxing where you can lay flat and receive red light therapy from the panels that surround you in the pod. For transparency, to own one of these in your home, the really good ones start at $50,000. I don’t know about you, but that’s a little out of my price range! A lot of people swear by this system and it may be the perfect fit for you.

The Pad System:

This system consists of interchangeable pads that you can actually wrap around your joints, around your head, your shoulders, elbows, etc. and focus on any type of issues that you have. You can place the pads directly on your skin or underneath your clothing. You don’t have to be unclothed; you don’t have to wear eye protection. You can bring your lights with you while traveling. It's very compact. I guess you’re sensing that I like the pad system best. This is what works really well for my family. Though I want you to find what works best for you and your family!

What is the light therapy experience like?

When you walk into my nice and tranquil office, we will sit down and have a candid conversation about your current health concerns. I will answer any questions you have and talk with you about the different ways that the lights can help you heal from any concerns that you have.

Once we’re done talking I’ll have you take a seat and then begin applying the light therapy pads to the targeted areas that you need. I walk you through each type of light and pad placement so you know exactly what the lights will be doing for your body.

While you are under the lights, for anywhere from 20-40 minutes, you will feel very relaxed and will be seated in a comfortable position, often while listening to calming music. A lot of people do fall asleep because of the soothing feeling that comes from the light therapy. This is great because this means your body has entered a parasympathetic state. This state is when your body is so relaxed that it calms down your central nervous system to allow it to heal.

Once your session is done, I remove the lights and allow you to settle in while I answer any questions you have.

Most people feel completely relaxed once the session is over. They often feel grounded. Some also feel energized and clear headed. It’s not the type of energy you have with a cup of coffee, it’s the type of energy where you feel like “I want to go do something!” It makes you happy and gets you in the positive state that you want to be in.

Many light therapy experiences embody this calm and relaxed feeling.

All of these different systems are out there in the world for people who want to bring the benefits of light therapy into their life. I’m personally excited to know that there are so many options! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
